This 6th duo album from Michael and Mead explores new terrain. MAGIC CARPET retains the lush, melodic qualities for which they are known, while embarking on an intensely passionate, yet playful journey into a sensuous, almost mystical realm. Cinematic in its scope, Michael and Mead add musical colors here not found in their earlier works. Randy Mead's emotionally laced piano compositions support his mastery of numerous wind instruments. David Michael gracefully intertwines the haunting viola-da-gamba and the Gypsyesque bouzouki with the lyrical voice of the Celtic harp. These consummate multi-instrumentalists achieve a tasteful ensemble sound with the help of their friends Joe Breskin on assorted guitars and bass and Marco Zonka on tablas and various percussion.
